Vaccines your dog or cat needs for Thailand
Thailand checks the vaccination record before it issues the import permit and again at the airport. Here is what it looks for.
| Pet | Required vaccines |
|---|---|
| Dog | Rabies, canine distemper, canine hepatitis, canine parvovirus, leptospirosis |
| Cat | Rabies, feline panleukopenia |
The rabies rules
- The first (primary) rabies vaccine must be given at 12 weeks of age or older.
- After a primary rabies vaccine, wait 21 days before applying for the import permit.
- Boosters given before the previous vaccine expired have no waiting period.
- The vaccine must still be valid when you arrive.
Leptospirosis for dogs
If your dog's leptospirosis vaccine isn't valid, or was given less than 21 days before departure, Thailand asks for a negative leptospirosis blood test within 30 days before departure instead.
What the certificates must show
Vaccination certificates must be in English and show the vet's full name, licence number and signature, with each vaccine's date and validity.
